Lightning Clutch Shopfitting

Oakwoods were approached by Iki at Ara Design to work with this Tokyo-based men’s style magazine Clutch to open the first UK based retail store and café in Fitzrovia, London.

The shop combines a café with a fashion boutique selling clothing, footwear, and accessories.

Oakwoods remit was to transform this unit consisting of 2,000 sq ft of retail space with a street level ground floor and basement sales area with an industrial feel and look.

Following extensive dialog with the client to ensure their needs were met, Oakwoods were able to work in partnership with them to fully design the services layout due to no services being present. As the basement areas had no natural ventilation a bespoke air circulation and ventilation system was installed to ensure comfortable air circulation was present.

Due to the internal fabric of the building consisting of concrete walls and ceilings throughout, it was agreed to install surface mounted galvanised trunking, power outlets, conduit and high level trays to ensure this industrial theme was consistent. Stringent guide lines outlined by Westminster Council didn't allow external security shutters, subsequently internal shutters were installed, again in galvanised to keep the industrial format.

With the exception of new track and spot lighting, the client sourced and supplied reclaimed feature lighting and furniture from France, with all the reclaimed lighting being fully rewired to ensure all current electrical regulations were adhered to.

Retail Shopfitters, Oakwoods, are very proud to have been part of this new venture for the client.
